Classes

Suncoast Academy of Dance offers many levels of dance classes. We provide instruction in Ballet, Pointe, Tap, Jazz, Lyrical, Contemporary, and Hip Hop. Preschool classes include ballet, tap, and tumbling.

For our preschool through level 2/3, there will be a teacher's assistant in any class where there are more than eight children enrolled. We do this to ensure that your child will receive the highest quality dance instruction. 

We are confident that you will love our studio, instructors, and classes. Suncoast Academy of Dance offers a free trial class to new students.

Pre-School I

(ages 3-4)

A 45 minute introductory class in ballet, tap, and tumbling. Young dancers begin learning basic steps, terminology, focus, and coordination in a fun-filled musical classroom setting.

Required attire:
Girls: leotard, tights, pink Bloch ballet shoes, black "Mary Jane” style tap shoes, a dance bag, and hair pulled back;
Boys: dance pants/shorts, comfortable shirt, black ballet shoes, tap shoes

Pre-School II

(ages 4-5)

A 45 minute introductory class in ballet, tap, and tumbling. Young dancers learn basic steps, terminology, focus and coordination in a fun filled musical classroom setting. PreSchool II builds on lessons from PreSchool I.

Required attire: refer to PreSchool I

Combo

(kindergarten)

A one hour class in ballet, tap, and jazz. Elementary school age dancers learn the art of ballet and tap through additional steps and terminology. This is a fun filled classroom.

Required attire: refer to PreSchool I

Ballet

(ages 6 and up)

Our classical ballet classes include barre work, center floor work, and variations. Each class is taught at the appropriate age and level stressing posture, alignment and body placement.

Classes Offered: Level 1, Level 2, Level 2/3, Level 3, Level 4, Advanced

Required attire: black leotard, pink tights, and hair in a bun

Tap

(ages 6 and up)

Tap is the only form of dance that creates its own music. Rhythm, music, and sounds are incorporated into each high energy class through combinations, technique, and improvisations geared to the appropriate level.

Classes Offered: Level 1, Level 2, Level 3, Level 4, Advanced

Required attire: fitted top, dance shorts or pants, and flat black tap shoes

Jazz

(ages 6 and up)

Jazz is an American dance form incorporating many different styles. Depending on the instructor, style will vary from west coast to east coast or urban to traditional.

Classes Offered: Level 1, Level 2, Level 3, Level 4, Level 5, Advanced

Required attire: fitted top, dance shorts or pants, and black jazz shoes

Hip Hop

(ages 7 and up)

An umbrella term for many styles of dance. Movements such as popping, locking and breaking ("old school") added to progressive movements that can come from anywhere or any time ("new school") supported by popular music (rap, funk, R&B, techno) that is age appropriate.

Classes Offered: Level 1, Level 2, Level 3, Teen

Required attire: loose fitting attire and black hip hop shoes

Contemporary

(ages 9 and up)

One of today’s most popular forms of dance, contemporary is not a specific form of dance but a collection of styles and movements that draw from modern technique to jazz being dependent on the instructors style of choreography.

Classes Offered: Level 1, Level 2, Level 3, Level 4/Advanced

Required attire: same as jazz

Lyrical

(ages 9 and up)

A beautiful art form which is a fusion of modern, jazz and ballet that conveys the emotion of a song's lyrics. Intense emotional expression of the face and body are necessary to tell a story. Strong technique and flexibility enhance this style. Ballet required.

Classes Offered: Level 1, Level 2, Level 3, Advanced

Required attire: same as jazz

Pointe

(invitation only)

Pointe is available for the more advanced dancer. Students enrolled in Pointe are also required to participate in two ballet classes each week.

Classes Offered: Beginning, Intermediate, Advanced

Required attire: same as ballet
